Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido
Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido the Creation of an Eclectic Martial Art System. I was done writing eBooks after Self Defense for Disabilities! But as I was putting the finishing touches on the book, and having conversations with a long time dedicated student of my root art, I realized I am coming up on 40 years in the arts,
Where did the time go?
He was asking me about the systems I used to decide what content to add to my root art, what to change and how to make it effective. Now, this man taught on my floor for years. So he knows very well our success at keeping students, and creating great Black Belts, was based on SYSTEMS.
This started to make me think about my first 16 years of training, and how I questioned why things taught did not always make sense to other aspects of learning.
When I left my teaching in 2000 and started my Dojo, my boys and I began to pick apart everything we knew, to improve and make it street worthy.
Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido
The result was Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido and an eclectic style that continues to expand and grow even today. Today, I no longer personally teach this art. My days of “in person” teaching are mostly finished. I have had a few excellent offers over the last few years. But no, thanks. My direction in life is different today. I made some basic materials about my art of Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido available via video course for those interested.
Today, I really am the “old man in the mountains.”
So what is this eBook about? In part, it will be a history of what I did during the creation of Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido.
However, done from the perspective as to why certain decisions were made, and how integration was done adding Kyusho Jitsu, Octagon, Small Circle Ju-jitsu and Cane, and WHY the specific changes were made.
My original root art of Kuk Sul Hapkido / Taekwondo blend was very much divided into parts. There was a sport aspect, a kata aspect, a foundation aspect and a self-defense aspect. But there was no connection between them. Each part of the art was compartmentalized.
And that is dead wrong. That is a waste of time and movement. All aspects need to make sense within themselves and have a relationship to each other. It should all flow together and make sense. We did tradition for the sake of tradition.
That is what this eBook “Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido: How to Create an Eclectic Style” is all about!
In Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido I will:
